Finely Chopped Slices #2 Filing Follies

May 2008

I've recently gotten some new filing tips from my Sacramento sister. Have label maker and have really been looking forward to organizing and putting away more paperwork.

Must get Manila envelopes. How did they get that name anyway? Long way to import what would seem to be a common papery item.

Go to Target. Love this Target. It's quiet and one can actually shop in relax mode. Pass music cd display. Push number 28 "Celtic Relax." Push number 12 "Calming Ocean." Push one final display "Mozart's Violin" and keep on shopping. I'm actually on a quest for a stainless steel trash can.

No trash cans in sight then I serendipitously find myself in the office supply section. There they are!!!! Manila envelopes, 12 for 2.94 or 48 for 3.34. Which one to choose? I ponder this question for a quarter of an hour. How many do we need? Twelve would probably be enough. But what if we needed extra? I weigh the difference in price and ll of the variables of having too many or too little manila folders. I mentally imagine throwing a few on my checked baggage (still free) for mom and Karrin to file when I visit them in Sacramento. I really don't want lots of extra clutter in my life, including off color folders. I unpack. I'm back at the store now. Hmmm? I could create a file for "extra manilas." No, waste of precious filing space. After ping ponging for a while on aisle 6, I put both back and walk away. It just wasn't my time to buy them. Argh.

I really hate filing anyway!!!!

  1. The "manila" component of the name comes from manila hemp or abaca, from which manila envelopes were originally made. Manila hemp is native to the Philippines and the term "manila envelope" is named after its capital city.
